New waterfront park and playground for Pegasus

Todd Property has today announced it will donate two large parcels of premium lakefront land to the Pegasus Town community, enabling the creation of significant new park and playground spaces.

Prior to Todd Property acquiring Pegasus in 2012, these two sites – valued at about $2 million – were destined to be used for commercial development.  However, last year Todd approached the Waimakariri District Council with an offer to vest the land in public ownership instead. This process is now underway.

“We are delighted the Council has accepted our offer. Gifting this land to the community will allow for the creation of valuable recreational spaces for families at the very heart of Pegasus Town. It will also ensure that these fantastic new public facilities will be protected for future generations to enjoy,” said Todd Property Managing Director Evan Davies.

The first 3770m2 site will be designated as a large open green space allowing the community to enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities.

The second 1821m2 site on Matamata Quay will be transformed into a substantial new playground for children of all ages to enjoy from toddlers through to teenagers. It will offer a range of high-quality play equipment, including swings, climbing structures, a playhouse and others. There will also be seating for parents and a new toilet block.

Todd Property will also construct a new carpark with approximately 80 parking spaces next to the play area. The combined cost of the toilet block, playground and carpark is estimated at about $900,000. While Todd Property will cover a large proportion of these costs, the Council has offered to contribute towards the playground expenses.

“The new park and playground will be fantastic assets for the community. We are grateful to the Council and residents for their support and look forward to seeing these projects come to life so that families can enjoy all the exciting opportunities that Pegasus Town has to offer,” said Evan Davies.

Earthworks will begin early in the New Year alongside civil works for Stage One of the retail sector Mainstreet at Pegasus. The playground and park are likely to be completed towards the end of this summer.
